Would donating money or something to a good cause be considered community service?
Posted by admin under: Community Service .
Would baking cookies for the troops, donating money to relay for life (cancer organization), or doing Bottles for life (an organization mde for preventing mothers from aborting there child) a way of community service?
What about baking cookies for troops. I have done that. That is getting your hands dirty. And for Relay for life I didn’t write a check. I helped a friend run a fundraiser. Would that count?

In answer to your question, No. Community service is donating your time and effort to community services. But, you are to be commended for your “charitable” contributions. No good deed goes unnoticed.
So, I say Good for you!

In my opinion, that is all community service. I was always taught that you can either donate your money or donate your time. By your description, it sounds like you’re doing both. Thanks so much for contributing to the community!

Not really…I think you actually have to do something. Like helping out at a shelter or food pantry.

i would talk to your guidance councelor. i think you should have credits for baking cookies for our troops and what-not, but in answer to your first question, no. donations arnt usually considered a service, but still, its a great deed.
hope this helped!

technically community service is something you donate your time to. However lets not be overly critical on this. Who cares what column it goes into, you’ve done something to benefit your community. Job well done!
From taking a look at your list; running fundraisers, baking cookies, bottles for life, you’ve got a list of community service experience.

Yes baking cookies for the troops and seeing they get sent over seas/ helping with Relay for life getting it put together and working the day of the event walking the event / those are both great community service events. You do not have to give money to be considered community service helping giving your time working the events is GREAT community service KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

Community service can be anything that promotes the common good. As such, writing a check AND helping to run a fund raiser BOTH qualify.
