About how much money does a petrologist make a year?
Posted by admin under: Earth Sciences & Geology .
When I’m older and after I go to school, I’m planning on being a petrologist. (person who studies rocks) I would like to know about how much money you would make. I hope it pays a lot!

It depends on the degree and what you plan to do with it. Most petrology jobs are either in teaching, research, or the USGS. To be a teacher at a University you need a PhD, to be a research assistant at a University you need at least a masters but PhD is recommended. All you need to work for the USGS is a bachelors, however, the higher the degree, the more you get paid. I’ve been told that the typical pay range for a volcanologist is 30,000-90,000 US dollars depending on seniority, level of education, location, etc…
Hope this helps
