Is it better to go to a community college to save money or enter a university coming out with an enormous debt?

Posted by admin under: Higher Education (University +) .

The option to go to a fantastic university is available to me, but I frankly can’t afford it neither can my parents. I’m considering taking out student loans but afraid that I might collect a large debt that I won’ be able to pay off in the future.

Would it just be better if I go to a CC instead? Will it look bad on my resume/transcript if do? Which do you think is the better option in the long term?

sure CC’s are meant to save people $$ and in these times, its wiser to go to a CC rather than a 4 year private or public university.

don’t worry about it, going to a community college is better bcause you pay less. But that doesn’t mean that the education *****. You are making the wise decsion and also if you work hard and get around like a 4.0 and join a few clubs before you graduate you can get scholarships (only with hardwork). If the employee sees that you had a humble begining and graduated at a another private school, they will be impressed. Besides you don’t have to let people know that you graduated frm a cc if you don’t add it in your resume/transcript. You can always leave that out.
Well i’ll admit that in the begining i was a bit embarressed about it as well. But after i went to a CC, i have made many friends and i really like my campus so far. I will be sad to leave. Despite having the grades to enter a 4year college, i didn’t want to because i wanted to save my parents money.
Don’t give a **** about other people think. You will come out a winner by saving your parents a lot of money and not going into debt. The decisiion is up to you. where you graduate is the most important thing =)

I earned my 2 year degree at a CC and am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s at a 4 year school. Not only did CC give me a leg up in the admissions process (nearly every school I applied to accepted me, including Rutgers, Drexel, Penn State, and Michigan State), but I saved a fortune.
The instruction is no better or worse than at a 4-year institution. I actually found it quite appalling that the quality of the education one receives in an expensive University is nearly the same as that of a CC.

Go for a CC to save money for the first 2 years. You will save a ton of money. Just be sure to get good grades and good recommendations from the professors. Paying all that money for a 4 year university in the first 2 years is wasting. Since you’ll be taking mostly general education classes which won’t make a big difference in your career later. Once you’re done and finish with an associate degree, then you can apply for a better school and spend more money and take higher loans. Even if you take out high student loans for the last 2 years, it won’t be as bad as for 4 years.
