does walmart give you money or store credit when you return something?

i got a gift card for walmart but i’d rather spend the money on something else so i was going to buy something and return it to get the money for it but i dont know if walmart gives you money or store credit.

If you buy something with a gift card the money will be put back on the gift card. If you no longer have that gift card a new one will be issued.
