How to get a credit card with no credit and no checking account?

Posted by admin under: Personal Finance .

I’m young with no credit and no checking account. I’ve been looking online and have only come across debit cards or credit cards that require a checking account. Where and how can I get a CREDIT CARD w/ no credit and no checking account?

Actually most banks give you a credit card when you open a checking account. If you are 17 or older you can get a student checking account with a debit card.

The reason they want a checking account is because statistics show that people that don’t have checking accounts are more likely to default.

If you are under 18, you can not get a credit card.

I suggest a prepaid card Visa or Master Card available at many supermarkets, WalMart and even convenience stores. Sometimes if you have a card, even a prepaid card, banks will look differently toward issuing a card to you.
Good Luck!

The best thing to do in your situation is to get your parents to have you put on one of their credit cards so you can establish credit. Then when that time is good enough, you can get your own credit card when you do get a credit score.

I found a debit card that allows you to build credit and borrow money. Even better if you have direct deposit from your job there is no upfront cost! Check out

Accountnow is not bad. They offer a prepaid visa or mastercard. It is more interesting if you have a direct deposit. You don’t need to cash your paychecks.
