Why are commercial faith healers immune from criminal prosecution?

Posted by admin under: Religion & Spirituality .

The Benny Hinn’s and Peter Popoff,s of this world are charlatans *. Why are faith healers treated differently from ponzi scheme operators and other fraudsters and never sent to jail?

‘ A charlatan (also called swindler or mountebank) is a person practicing quackery or some similar confidence trick in order to obtain money, fame or other advantages via some form of pretence or deception.

I am unsure about healers of other faiths
but in Spiritualism , there are rules and regs that a healer must abide by
they are not immune to prosecution

They aren’t. Robert Tilton was taken to court and found guilty.

They shouldn’t be, but people understand the danger in the government deciding which flavor of religion is false and which isn’t.

If we would all just educate ourselves and accept that they are all false, people like Hinn, Popoff, and Crouch wouldn’t be flying around in lear jets.

A very good question, they fit right into the category of fraudsters and false advertisers.

A user by the name of dprjones ( ) has started a bit of a campaign against Popoff, for great justice.

Healing should be left to health care professionals. Anyone else who tries to “heal” people should be prosecuted.

Some of these people have spent time in jail and I thought that Peter Popoff was one of them – back in the 90s.

Most people are unsuspecting of a religious charlatan, they never seem to see it coming. It is an innocent side of mankind, we do so want to believe. That is why Tinkerbell is so popular. When we find that we have been duped the trick is so hurtful we avoid reprisal because it admits our weakness.

Good question.
The FDA brought down the swindlers of Enzyte and the Q Ray bracelet because these products’ infomercials were making false claims on the effectiveness to heal or provide medical relief.
Why not equate a faith healers program to an infomercial that claims to heal cancers and other health problems and bring them down for false claims.
To add insult to injury, when victims’ health problems don’t improve after a faith healing session, the healer claims that the victim didn’t have enough faith. It’s the victim’s fault, not the healer.
Faith healers, to me are the most uncaring members of our species.

Them and American Presidents it would seem. In the first case they claim to have a line to a deity and as a result are deified by association(Although I suspect it has more to do with the quality of their legal team) In the second case(with the caveat that this is merely my opinion) the American people generally tend to deify their leaders. At least in the respect that they rather too easily forgive their transgressions.

No body should be above the law. In order for a rule to be fair it must be universally applied.

Because they probably do a little “house-cleaning” of their own before the law gets to them..that’s what I think happened at the last church I attended..(read the articles in order, you’ll actually understand the whole story that way)…

I’ve left now. I go to another church where they are held accountable by the church accountant for spending practices.
