should wikipedia.org receive donations? and will they pay those who write the articles?

those who make wiki.org articles do so free of charge. its open-sourced and user-edited. i use it all the time. wikipedia.org now accepts donations. do you think there will ever be a point where wiki will distribute any funds to the contributors? it doesnt seem fair for wiki to collect money for services it did not have to pay anyone to perform.

Well its a donation and the amount you decide to give is up to you so if you feel that you don’t want to write articles on wiki.org because your not getting paid your not forced to so its irrelevant to wether you should payed or not because you are writing on your behalf.

They accept donations because it takes time and money to run a website even if people add your information.. think of myspace.. they generate money by ad’s even though its normal people who add the content.
Anyway wikipedia is fully dumb.. you cant believe anything on it for a real project… and if you want to believe, you have to tripple check with GOOD sites to make sure it aint phony information.
A worthy cause would be all WIndows users to go to bill gates’s mansion cuz its not fair he charges $250 per copy of Vista when theres homeless people on the street.

You wont get paid. The fact is that wiki still has to pay to keep it servers up and that is what the donations are going to. It is a massive fan based website and that allows everyone to contribute knowing that they are not going to get paid. Also it would be to difficult to keep track of who acctualy deserves the money. They are not going to start researching everything to make sure that the provided info is correct, and the fact is that some people would edit articels weather the info they provide is real or fact just to get the money.

You will never be paid to write to Wikipedia.
If you want to be paid, wait for Knol, a great encyclopedia that Google is creating.
